As an optimistic California Institute of Technology (Caltech) graduate trainee throughout the midst of the Great Depression, Malina agreed to lead a motley crew of amateur rocket lovers and fellow Caltech students trying to introduce rockets in hopes of one day reaching space. Malina helped to win a world war, just to later see his country turn against him, and declare him a worldwide fugitive.
