This Week at NASA: SpaceX Crew-6, Black Holes on a Collision Course, and Anniversary on Mars

This illustration depicts NASAs Perseverance rover operating on the surface of Mars. Determination will land at the Red Planets Jezero Crater a little after 3:40 p.m. EST (12:40 p.m. PST) on February 18, 2021. Proof for two pairs of supermassive black holes in dwarf galaxies on crash courses has actually been found with Chandra. The other merger is in the early phases and the two dwarf galaxies are called Elstir (bottom) and Vinteuil (top). As part of our effort to offer more resources and details to brand-new audiences, we have launched brand-new Spanish-language webpages featuring NASA aeronautics content and details.

Black holes on a clash …
And an anniversary on Mars … a few of the stories to tell you about– This Week at NASA!

NASAs SpaceX Crew-6 Flight Crew Arrives at Launch Site
On February 21, the members of NASAs SpaceX Crew-6 mission got to NASAs Kennedy Space Center ahead of their flight to the International Space Station. The team, consisting of NASA astronauts Stephen Bowen and Woody Hoburg, are targeted for launch no earlier than February 27 from Kennedys Launch Complex 39A.
Evidence for two pairs of supermassive great voids in dwarf galaxies on collision courses has been discovered with Chandra. The 2 pairs are revealed in X-rays from Chandra and optical light from the Canada-France-Hawaii telescope. The merger on the left is in a late stage and was given the single name of Mirabilis. The other merger is in the early stages and the 2 dwarf galaxies are called Elstir (bottom) and Vinteuil (top). Astronomers believe that dwarf galaxies– those about 20 times less enormous than the Milky Way– grow through mergers with others. This is a crucial process for galaxy growth in the early Universe and this discovery offers examples for researchers to study in greater information. Credit: X-ray: NASA/CXC/Univ. of Alabama/M. Chandra Discovers Giant Black Holes on Collision Course.
Astronomers have actually used NASAs Chandra X-ray Observatory to track two pairs of supermassive great voids in dwarf galaxies on crash courses. This is the first evidence for such an impending encounter, and it is offering essential info about the growth of black holes in the early Universe.

Determination Rover Celebrates Two Years on Mars.
NASAs Perseverance rover just recently commemorated its second anniversary on Mars. Because landing in February 2021, the rover has actually taken a trip over 9 miles, gathered 18 samples, and taken numerous countless images– all as part of the objectives look for indications of ancient microbial life on Mars.

NASA Launches Aeronautics Spanish-Language Webpages.
As part of our effort to supply more resources and info to brand-new audiences, we have actually launched brand-new Spanish-language websites featuring NASA aeronautics content and details. You can also find STEM-related instructional material on these web pages for trainees. Discover more at nasa.gov/ aeroes.
Thats whats up this week @NASA!
