This image, acquired on March 5, 2023, shows a region which combines range of mountains, farming plains, arid locations, along with densely inhabited city centres.
The urban location of Monterrey, visible in tones of grey in the centre of the image, is the 2nd biggest in Mexico with around five million residents. It is crossed by the Santa Catarina River, which is typically fed by flowing underground water, although the river was primarily dry when this image was gotten.
Monterrey is 540 m (1,772 feet) above water level and is nestled at the foothills of the Sierra Madre Oriental, the folded mountain range that can be seen in the bottom-left of the image.

The Cumbres de Monterrey National Park depends on the northern part of the Sierra Madre Oriental and consists of the famous Cerro de la Silla (or Saddle Mountain), which dominates Monterreys skyline. The park is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and offers approximately 50% of the water consumed in Monterrey and its city.
The grey location noticeable west of the park is the city of Saltillo, the capital of the Mexican state of Coahuila. Saltillo is among the most industrialised locations in the country and, thanks to its cool and dry climate, has ended up being a popular holiday location.
The area south of the park appears primarily dry, with just a few centre-pivot irrigation fields visible in the brown areas in the bottom of the image.
