NASAs Cassini was a robotic spacecraft that was sent out to study the planet Saturn, its rings, and its moons. It was a joint task in between NASA, the European Space Agency (ESA), and the Italian Space Agency (ASI), and was introduced on October 15, 1997.
In 1997 an enthusiastic worldwide objective, led by NASAS Jet Propulsion Laboratory, launches to Saturn. The goal is to position a spacecraft around the world and land the European Space Agencys probe on a moon in the outer planetary system, something never ever before attempted. However this is a mission that had to battle its way to the launch pad. A tight spending plan, hazards of cancellation, and friction in between what researchers want and what engineers can do are simply some of the challenges that need to be worked out by a worldwide team of scientists and engineers from 27 nations.
Time and once again the task is required to compromise, including even the flight path to Saturn. Will Cassinis rarely-used main engine light up and slow down the spacecraft enough to be captured by Saturns gravity? Or will the spacecraft be ruined as it flies through a gap in Saturns rings?
Narrating the story of NASAs Cassini objective, this is the latest in a series of documentaries, “JPL and the Space Age.” These movies use uncommon archival footage and interviews with pioneering engineers and researchers from the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in retelling the stories of a lot of humankinds initial steps into the cosmos.
