Replacing Animal Products With a Plant-Based Diet Leads to Weight Loss, Finds New Analysis

A study exposes that overweight grownups who replace animal products with plant-based foods experience significant weight loss and improved health, regardless of the healthfulness of the plant-based foods consumed.Switching from animal products to plant-based foods, regardless of whether these plant-based items are thought about unhealthy or healthy as per the plant-based diet plan index, leads to weight loss in obese people, lowers cholesterol and fat consumption, and boosts fiber intake according to a new analysis by the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine published in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition.” While a low-fat vegan diet abundant in fruits, beans, vegetables, and grains is the gold standard for weight loss and enhanced health, the good news is that a plant-based diet that gets rid of animal items and lessens the consumption of oil can help with weight loss in people who are obese,” says study co-author Hana Kahleova, MD, PhD, director of scientific research study at the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine.Analysis and ResultsThe findings are from a secondary analysis of a Physicians Committee study in which 244 obese adults were randomly appointed to a vegan group that followed a low-fat vegan diet plan or a control group that made no diet modifications for 16 weeks. Calorie consumption was not limited for either group, and neither group was offered diet quality instructions. The brand-new analysis examined the association of a plant-based diet plan index (PDI), healthful plant-based diet index (hPDI), and unhealthy plant-based diet index (uPDI) with weight loss.
