A breakthrough research study from the University of Alberta presents a new class of drugs that enhance the bodys immune reaction against viruses, revealing considerable capacity in dealing with and avoiding future viral break outs by boosting interferon production.According to the lead scientist, “We need these drugs to avoid or treat future viral break outs. The researchers believed SARS-CoV-2, another RNA virus, would act in a comparable fashion to neutralize the bodys antiviral response.Promising Results from Drug TestingFor the research study, the team tried 40 existing drugs that target the Wnt/ β-catenin signaling pathway. 3 of the drugs considerably lowered the amount of infection found in the lungs, and one of the drugs was also reliable at lowering inflammation and other clinical symptoms in mice.
