From Ancient Egyptian Myths to Astrophysics: A Jewel in the Queen’s Hair

NGC 4689, a galaxy included in this Hubble image, lies in the constellation called after Queen Berenice II of Egypt and plays an essential function in research studies of galaxy evolution with data complementing the Webb telescope. Credit: ESA/Hubble & & NASA, D. Thilker, J. Lee and the PHANGS-HST TeamThis sensational Hubble Space Telescope image reveals the jewel-bright spiral galaxy NGC 4689, which is located approximately 54 million light-years from Earth in the constellation Coma Berenices. In this case, the Hubble information were collected in order to get a more precise grasp of the stellar populations of neighboring galaxies, which is important to understanding the development of galaxies.
