A SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket with the Psyche spacecraft onboard is seen at sundown at Kennedy Space Centers Launch Complex 39A on Thursday, October 12, 2023. NASAs Psyche mission intends to check out the metal-rich asteroid, Psyche, believed to be the exposed core of an undeveloped world. NASAs Psyche objective is a voyage to a special metal-rich asteroid, also named Psyche, which orbits the Sun between Mars and Jupiter.
The spacecraft will journey to this intriguing asteroid, intending to assist scientists comprehend more about the building blocks of planet development and offering insights into the violent history of accidents and accretion that produced terrestrial planets. Launched atop a Falcon Heavy rocket, the objective is part of NASAs Discovery Program, which is focused on understanding our planetary systems early history. The spacecraft will use magnetometers, multispectral imagers, and gamma-ray and neutron spectrometers to investigate the asteroids structure, origin, and possibly even its age.

We stay a “go” for launch, with the most recent weather condition update from the U.S. Space Forces 45th Weather Squadron predicting an 85% opportunity of beneficial weather condition today for liftoff.
Groups continue targeting liftoff of NASAs Psyche mission at 10:19 a.m. EDT (7:19 a.m. PDT) from Kennedys Launch Complex 39A. The main weather concern for the launch area is the cumulus cloud rule.

NASAs Psyche Mission Overview
NASAs Psyche objective is a trip to a distinct metal-rich asteroid, also called Psyche, which orbits the Sun in between Mars and Jupiter. Unlike the majority of asteroids, which are mostly made of rock or ice, Psyche is composed primarily of metal iron and nickel. Its thought that the asteroid may be the exposed core of a world that didnt completely form, using an unusual appearance into the structure blocks of world development.
