An Unparalleled View: The Annular Solar Eclipse From the International Space Station

Photographing celestial phenomena from the ISS includes a special set of obstacles. The ISS orbits the Earth at a substantial speed, and this, combined with the dynamics of the celestial event itself, requires accurate computation and timing for accurate documents.

Annular solar eclipses are an unique category of solar eclipses. In such an occasion, due to the relative distances between Earth, the Moon, and the Sun, the Moon does not completely obscure the Sun. The Moon passes in front of the sun casting its shadow, or umbra, and darkening a part of the Earths surface throughout the annular solar eclipse.

From the viewpoint of the International Space Station (ISS), NASA astronaut and Expedition 70 Flight Engineer Jasmin Moghbeli recorded an important astronomical event: the annular solar eclipse. This picture, taken on October 14, shows the Moon death in front of the Sun.
Annular Eclipses: The Science
Annular solar eclipses are a distinct classification of solar eclipses. In such an occasion, due to the relative distances between Earth, the Moon, and the Sun, the Moon does not completely obscure the Sun.

NASA astronaut Jasmin Moghbeli reached the International Space Station on August 27, aboard the SpaceX Dragon Endurance. She became part of the Crew-7 mission which likewise consisted of ESA (European Space Agency) astronaut Andreas Mogensen, JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) astronaut Satoshi Furukawa, and Roscosmos cosmonaut Konstantin Borisov.
