Trainee Spotlight: Fia Hoque

Fia Hoque is currently pursuing a masters degree in the Sustainability Science (SUSC) program. Born and raised in Dhaka, Bangladesh, she transferred to the U.S. in 2016 to complete her bachelors in chemistry from the University of Washington. She is particularly thinking about information analysis and management with the ultimate goal of assisting business and non-profits adapt to more sustainable practices and taking part in worldwide climate change.
Aside from academics, Fia enjoys traveling and has been to over 20 nations. In her leisure time, she likes hiking, trying new foods, and exploring all forms of music and art..
What drew you to use to the SUSC program?.
This program has the best blend of scientific development, technical abilities, and hands-on curriculum that is necessary to end up being a sustainability professional– my ideal profession. A few of the major aspects that attracted me to the SUSC program were the innovative scientific approaches and tools, the application of interdisciplinary clinical research study and integrative education design, and an environment that consists of a network of diverse professionals.
What are a few of the highlights from your time in the SUSC program?
In addition to my classes, I joined the Resiliency Science Union of Excellence (R.E.S.C.U.E.) club at Columbia University where I satisfied some terrific people and had some incredible experiences!

SUSC PS5130 Improving Health through Environmental Measurements in Water and Soil taught by Dr. Lex van Geen..
What are some of your profession goals? How has being a part of the Sustainability Science program impacted those goals?
I aim to be a sustainability expert. I wish to use new technology and scientific approaches to reduce and keep track of climate effects around the world. I desire to help both public and private business carry out more sustainable solutions.
