The Moon serves as a background for the Artemis I Space Launch System (SLS) and Orion spacecraft at Launch Pad 39B at NASAs Kennedy Space Center in Florida on March 21, 2022. Artemis I will be the very first incorporated test of the SLS and Orion spacecraft.
NASA is targeting Monday, April 4, to resume the Artemis I wet gown rehearsal test. The test was stopped Sunday, April 3 previous to tanking due to loss of ability to pressurize the mobile launcher utilizing 2 fans. The fans are required to provide favorable pressure to the confined locations within the mobile launcher and keep out dangerous gases. Without this capability, technicians were unable to securely continue with from another location loading the propellants into the rockets core stage and interim cryogenic propulsion phase.
If they will proceed with propellant loading, the launch control team will satisfy at 6 a.m. EDT and review the status of the operations before deciding. The targeted test T-0 is prepared for 2:40 p.m. EDT. Meteorologists with the U.S. Space Force Space Launch Delta 45 currently predict favorable climate condition for tanking operations.
Throughout a teleconference this night, Mike Sarafin, Artemis I mission manager and Charlie Blackwell-Thompson, Artemis launch director suggested that teams are continuing to repair the problem with the fans and aim to have a resolution later on tonight. NASA will supply an update the early morning of April 4, prior to the tanking conference.
