NASA’s Latest Plans for Critical Artemis I Moon Rocket Testing

NASA will host a teleconference to go over information on Monday, April 11. Check back at this blog site for an update on the countdown timeline prior to the customized damp dress rehearsal testing for the Artemis I objective. NASA is streaming live video of the rocket and spacecraft on the Kennedy Newsroom YouTube channel..

NASAs Space Launch System (SLS) rocket with the Orion spacecraft aboard is seen atop a mobile launcher at Launch Complex 39B as the Artemis I launch group prepares for the next effort of the damp dress practice session test, right, as a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket with the businesss Crew Dragon spacecraft aboard is seen on the launch pad at Launch Complex 39A as preparations continue for Axiom Mission 1 (Ax-1), Wednesday, April 6, 2022, at NASAs Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Ax-1 crew members Commander Michael López-Alegría of Spain and the United States, Pilot Larry Connor of the United States, and Mission Specialists Eytan Stibbe of Israel, and Mark Pathy of Canada released on April 8 from Launch Complex 39A at the Kennedy Space.
NASA is preparing to continue with a customized wet gown rehearsal, mostly focused on tanking the core stage, and minimal propellant operations on the interim cryogenic propulsion stage (ICPS) with the ground systems at Kennedy. Due to the modifications in packing treatments needed for the modified test, wet gown rehearsal testing is slated to resume with call to stations on Tuesday, April 12 and tanking on Thursday, April 14.
Helium is utilized for several various operations, including purging the engine, or clearing the lines, prior to loading propellants throughout tanking, as well as draining propellant. A check valve is a type of valve that permits liquid or gas to stream in a particular instructions and avoids backflow.
Following the customized test, the Space Launch System rocket and Orion spacecraft will return to the Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB) where engineers will evaluate the valve and replace if required. When back in the VAB, teams are confident in the capability to replace the valve.
