JPL and the Space Age: Mission to Mars – Rising Again to the Red Planet (NASA Documentary)

Objective to Mars is the story of the scientists and engineers who got rid of multiple hardships to create, construct, test, and introduce the Spirit and Opportunity rovers, 2 of NASAs a lot of storied missions.

The Spirit Rover was a robotic spacecraft that was part of NASAs Mars Exploration Rover mission. The Opportunity Rover was a robotic spacecraft that was part of NASAs Mars Exploration Rover objective. The Opportunity rover ran on Mars for over 14 years, far exceeding its expected life-span of just 90 days, and made numerous groundbreaking discoveries that advanced our understanding of the Red Planet.

After the disastrous loss of 2 back-to-back objectives to Mars in 1999, NASAs Jet Propulsion Laboratory found itself at a crossroads. Would the laboratory pull back, ending up being more mindful and conservative with the new missions it wanted to handle? Or would JPL, as one engineer put it, “return in the saddle” and continue its custom of pursuing innovative and difficult missions?
That concern was addressed when JPL proposed designing and developing from scratch a totally new type of Martian rover on an incredibly tight schedule, and launching not one, however two of them to the Red Planet. The objectives proposer thought he could rely upon the proven Entry, Descent and Landing system used by Mars Pathfinder, employing air bags and parachutes. However as the rover style became larger and heavier, even the scheme of “constructing to print” that reputable system needed to be abandoned as tests of parachutes and airbags considerably failed in test after test. Objective to Mars is the story of the engineers and researchers who conquered numerous adversities to create, develop, test, and release the Spirit and Opportunity rovers, 2 of NASAs many storied objectives.

The Spirit Rover was a robotic spacecraft that was part of NASAs Mars Exploration Rover mission. The Spirit rover run on Mars for over 6 years, during which it made numerous essential discoveries, such as proof of previous water on the worlds surface area and the composition of Martian soil. Regardless of this setback, the Spirit rovers contributions to our understanding of Mars have been significant, and its legacy lives on as a testament to human resourcefulness and expedition.
The Opportunity Rover was a robotic spacecraft that became part of NASAs Mars Exploration Rover mission. It was released on July 7, 2003, and arrived on Mars on January 25, 2004. The rover was created to check out the Martian surface and perform scientific experiments to study the worlds geology, atmosphere, and search for proof of previous or present life. It was equipped with different instruments, including a breathtaking cam, a tiny imager, a rock abrasion tool, and a spectrometer, among others. The Opportunity rover ran on Mars for over 14 years, far surpassing its expected life expectancy of simply 90 days, and made various cutting-edge discoveries that advanced our understanding of the Red Planet. Nevertheless, the rover stopped communicating with Earth on June 10, 2018, and NASA stated the mission total on February 13, 2019.
