Heart and Digestion in Space: Microgravity Research Ahead of Cargo Delivery and New Crew

A freight craft is currently orbiting Earth en route to the International Space Station (ISS). As this unfolds, the seven members of Expedition 69 are diving into research study on the effect of weightlessness on cardiac tissue and the digestion system. Meanwhile, another crew is preparing for its launch, arranged for early Friday.
Three lots of area supplies are jam-packed aboard the Roscosmos Progress 85 cargo craft and en route to the orbital homeowners for a shipment scheduled at 11:50 p.m. EDT on Thursday. While the cargo activities get underway, the SpaceX Crew-7 objective will release at 3:50 a.m. on Friday from NASAs Kennedy Space. 4 Commercial Crew astronauts will be seated inside the SpaceX Dragon Endurance spacecraft atop the businesss Falcon 9 rocket waiting for a 24-hour journey to their new home in area.

NASA astronaut and Crew-7 Commander Jasmin Moghbeli will be leading Pilot Andreas Mogensen of ESA (European Space Agency) and Mission Specialists Satoshi Furukawa of JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) and Konstantin Borisov of Roscosmos aboard Endurance throughout the ride to the station. Endurance, with the quartet within, will instantly dock to the Harmony modules space-facing port at 2:02 a.m. on Saturday. The foursome will open the hatch about 2 hours later, go into the station, welcome the Expedition 69 team, and start a six-month microgravity research mission.
Microgravity Research and Crew Activities
The crewmates living in area explored how microgravity impacts cardiac cells and the gastrointestinal system to benefit people living on and off the Earth. NASA Flight Engineers Frank Rubio and Woody Hoburg dealt with samples of stem-cell-derived heart micro-tissues on Wednesday in the Kibo laboratory module. The Project EAGLE biology research study occurs in Kibos Life Science Glovebox and may reveal possible therapies for space-caused cardiac irregularities and Earth-bound cardiovascular disease.
Prokopyev and Petelin began the day with ultrasound scans after breakfast to observe how the gastrointestinal system adapts to weightlessness. Prokopyev then partnered with Flight Engineer Andrey Fedyaev in the afternoon for more tests of the lower body negative pressure suit that may assist team members readjust to Earths gravity environment.
End of Mission for Some Astronauts
Fedyaev will be going back to Earth soon with Hoburg and astronauts Stephen Bowen of NASA and Sultan Alneyadi of UAE (United Arab Emirates). The quartet will get in the SpaceX Dragon Endeavour spacecraft one week after Crew-7 gets here, undock from Harmonys forward port, and splashdown off the coast of Florida to finish a six-month area objective. On Wednesday afternoon, the 4 crewmates checked their SpaceX pressure suits they will wear inside Endeavour when they leave the station for the ride back to Earth.
