NASA Delays SpaceX Crew-5 Launch Due to Hurricane Ian

In the coming days, more updates on the planning schedule, consisting of team arrival from the companys Johnson Space Center to Kennedy, will be offered, depending on weather and center status. As constantly, the security of the team, ground groups, and hardware stay of the utmost importance to NASA and SpaceX
Presently, the Dragon Endurance spacecraft is mated to the Falcon 9 rocket and safely secured inside SpaceXs hangar at Launch Complex 39A. After the storm advances, groups from NASA and SpaceX will evaluate the possible impacts to the center and figure out whether it is required to change the mission timeline even more.

Undocking of the firms Crew-4 mission from the spaceport station will move day-for-day together with the Crew-5 launch date. This will permit a planned five-day direct handover in between teams.

NASAs SpaceX Crew-5 mission to the International Space Station was set up to release on October 3 before being postponed until October 4 due to Hurricane Ian. Now it is postponed one more day, until October 5, again due to Hurricane Ian.
NASA and SpaceX are presently targeting no earlier than midday EDT Wednesday, October 5, for the launch of the agencys Crew-5 objective to the International Space Station (ISS) with a U.S. Eastern Range backup date on October 7. Objective management teams also are examining possible variety opportunities on October 6 pending evaluation of the phasing timeline, October 8, and October 9.
Objective groups continue to keep an eye on the effects of Hurricane Ian on the Space Coast and NASAs Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Depending on the conditions, it may be necessary to change the launch date once again. As of 6 p.m. Wednesday, September 28, Kennedy Space Center stated “HURCON I” status with the ride-out group sheltered in place at their designated places until the storm passes.
