Using Virtual/Augmented Reality and Holoportation to Help Improve Mental Health for Future Mars Astronauts

Astronauts taking a trip to Mars, on the other hand, are going to be away from home far longer, potentially 2 years longer. Theyre going to be stuck in a spaceship for the long journey to Mars, stuck inside a Mars surface/subsurface habitat for even longer and unable to go outside without a spacesuit, then stuck in the exact same spaceship for the long journey back house.

We just recently checked out how the Apple television+ series, For All Mankind, provides us an extreme truth check about the harshness of human space expedition. In the program, astronauts battle, some go bananas, and a lot of them die in the pursuit of planting our flag just a little farther from home. We went over how while For All Mankind is both science fiction while occurring in an alternate universe, our future Artemis and Mars astronauts will highly likely sustain the same battles and hardships as the programs cherished characters.
When Artemis astronauts finally arrive on the Moon, theyll be there anywhere from a few days to a couple of months. While the Moon is only a few days travel time from Earth, Artemis astronauts might still get a little grouchy being stuck in their environment and unable to go outside without a spacesuit.

The typical perception is that astronauts are these superhuman freaks of nature, but theyre still very much human, and they all have their favorite hobbies and activities, to consist of the arts, running marathons, and scuba diving. When a few of these brave pioneers are on Mars, we might send them immersive video of those very same preferred hobbies and activities to assist improve their mental health, therefore helping them remain focused on the mission.
Holoportation.
For our own future Mars astronauts and their households, holoportation can be utilized to talk to each other, albeit with a slight time delay. This technology will just enhance in the coming years, and Mars astronauts seeing their family members as a genuine 3D image could have a far more favorable effect on their mental health than just talking to them on a Zoom call or another standard type of 2D video interaction.

For our own future Mars astronauts and their households, holoportation can be utilized to talk to each other, albeit with a small time delay. When will humans go to Mars, and how will the astronauts react being away from their households for such a long duration of time?

What if future Mars astronauts could utilize this exact same innovation for home entertainment functions to assist enhance their mental health while stuck being on a planet that is rather actually trying to kill them?

This mental health drain could be hugely magnified for any crewed journey to Mars, with some of the astronauts and their families back home certainly questioning the objective knowing that if one part stops working, theyre not coming house.
Virtual/Augmented Reality (VR/AR).
Everyone loves virtual reality (VR), particularly for video games. Nowadays, we cant turn on our TV or streaming service without seeing an advertisement for the most recent VR headset that youll likely be immersed in for hours on end. For human spaceflight, astronauts on the International Space Station (ISS) began using VR and enhanced truth (AR) to assist carry out their various jobs onboard the orbiting outpost, from managing robotics to carrying out upkeep. What if future Mars astronauts could use this same innovation for home entertainment functions to assist enhance their mental health while stuck being on a world that is quite actually attempting to kill them?
